Adult Dogs

“Everyone thinks they have the best dog And none of them are wrong” - W.R. Purche.

Most dog breeds are classified as adults after 12 months of age.

For adult dogs, we recommend a yearly visit to us at Johnston Street Veterinary Clinic.

This is to perform a health check and a C5 vaccination. Pets age rapidly and a yearly vaccination coinciding with an examination by one of our veterinarians, allows us to ensure the optimal health and wellbeing of your dog.

We have researched the best options and quality for your pet. Therefore, we provide a triennial vaccine for part of your dog’s yearly vaccination visit. The C3 component of the vaccine only needs to be administered 3 yearly instead of each year. A yearly ‘Kennel’ Cough vaccine is still necessary due to waning immunity. With research and in relation to the World Veterinary Association protocol, we have options of oral and injectable vaccinations.

What does a C5 vaccine protect my dog from?

Canine Distemper This is an infectious viral disease that can affect a dog of any age, but puppies are at a higher risk of infection due to lower immunity.

Canine Adenovirus/Hepatitis Like distemper this is a viral disease that is highly contagious and often fatal. Dogs of any age can become infected however dogs under the age of two years tend to be more severe.

Canine Parvovirus A highly contagious viral diseases that affect dogs of all ages however they are more commonly seen in pups and older dogs. The virus attacks the intestines and causes severe abdominal pain, vomiting and haemmorrhagic diarrhea (bloody). Dogs can often die from dehydration even if they are given intensive veterinary care.

Canine Cough is produced by several highly infectious bacterium known as bordetella bronchiseptica and the virus parainfluenza. These are often spread in areas that dogs congregate together, such as at the dog park etc.

Affected dogs have a hacking cough which can scare some owners thinking that there may be something stuck in their throat, mouth or airway. A yearly ‘Kennel’ Cough vaccine is still necessary due to waning immunity.
